As a teenager, I headed out to the mail to do my Christmas shopping for my family.  I was determined to get something for Mom and Dad.  Reality set in as I turned over price tags.  Only 1 person would get a gift at this rate because the money in my wallet only had pictures of Washington and Lincoln on them.

As my siblings and I gathered to have a slushie by the fountain, they shared they had discovered the same thing.  The only way we could fill Mom and Dad's stocking hung by the chimney with care was to join forces.  Together we can, my sister said.  We put our ones and fives together and had enough to buy something nice for Mom, Dad, and even the dog!  Together we can!

As brothers and sisters in Christ, together we can support the ministry of New Jerusalem and even then some.  But we need everyone to give a fair share.  Yes, times are tight.  Yes, things cost more.  Yes, the future is uncertain. But what better time to take a step of faith and share your earthly treasures each week or each month on a regular basis.

If all 221 giving units—that is every person or family who has a church envelope—could give consistently, we would support the estimated costs for 2012 and even have more.
